Little is known of this Philip.

Evidence for his existence includes:

A late 12th century deed in which William de Braose grants liberties to the monks of Flaxley Abbey, Glos. William gives this grant "for the health of my soul and of my wife Matilda de St Valerie". The first two witnesses are "William and Philip, my sons." The Cartulary and Historical Notes of the Cistercian Abbey of Flaxley: by Arthur William Crawley-Boevey (1887) p134
