Lleucu, wife of Geoffrey de Camville (died 1219), of Llanstephan Castle, Carmarthenshire is known to have been a granddaughter of William de Braose (d 1211), who granted her property in Ireland on her marriage.

(see Shirley, Royal Letters .. Henry III, Vol 1 (1862). Letter 50 discusses these lands claimed by Lleucu as her maritagium.)

In a letter dated to 1293/1308, Lleucu's grandson, Geoffrey de Camville, and his son, William, wrote to the King and Council regarding the lands in Cardigan of Owain ap Gruffydd, "whose heirs they were".

(see Rees, Cal. of Ancient Petitions Rel. Wales (Board of Celtic Studies, Hist. & Law Ser. 28) (1975): pp150-151.)

This claimed link to the son of Gruffydd ap Rhys and Maud de Braose answered the question as to Lleucu's descent from her grandfather.

My thanks are due to Doug Richardson for making me aware of this line of reasoning. (Dec 2004)
