Little is known of this Philip.

Evidence for his existence includes his appearance as a witness to an agreement between the Templars and the monks of Sele Priory. ("Records of the Templars in England in the twelfth century" Beatrice A. Lees p. 230).

He also occurs in a confirmation charter in the "liber alba" of St Florent Abbey. (folio 120 v)

This Philip seems to be the one who married Matilda de Pont de l'Arche. After Philip's death Matilda married William, Baron Naas. Reference to these marriages are made in the Close Rolls of Henry II and in the Fine Rolls of Henry III, 12 Sep. 1220. where disputes about her dower are resolved. In the Fine Rolls (1220) she is called Eva, but in the Close Rolls (1227) Matilda. Matilda's surname is found in a charter (ca. 1225) in the Gormanston Register. William, Baron Naas, gives a tenement to his son Maurice "by assent of Mahaut Pontearch, his wife." This is quoted in Orpen's Ireland under the Normans, vol 4 p.308

Father: William de Braose, 3rd Lord of Bramber
