The parish church at the centre of Briouze stands at the place believed to have been the site of William de Braose's castle keep.

Opposite the church is the town's war memorial. Nearby, a derelict property is about to be demolished. Archaeologists will examine the site before it is redeveloped. Hopefully, they will reveal evidence of William de Braose's castle - an exciting prospect!

The Town Hall, set in beautiful grounds close to the town centre, has preserved a traditional horse-driven cider press. The cider of Normandy is another good reason to make a visit.

The Mayor of Briouze, M André Villain, welcomed us to the town and guided us around the Town Hall. This was a special surprise and a very pleasant honour.

The official crest of Briouze represents the town's marvellous marshland setting. The area is famous for its ducks and other wildlife flourishes. Organic farming is becoming a speciality. The apple and poplar trees, laden with mistletoe, are particularly lovely.

La Marotte is a wonderful gift shop in Briouze, with everything a visitor could wish for - charming staff, unique gifts and the most original wrapping we have ever seen!
